Last week, I gave our Center for Public Sector AI’s Q3 2024 update on the generative AI landscape for state and local government. What was notable for this last quarter is the continued integration of AI into edge devices, as seen through major announcements from Apple, Samsung, and Google. I also discussed some other emerging GenAI issues, like the complexities surrounding open-source AI models, the growing fragmented legislative activity around AI, and the emergence of new embedded generative AI applications that may challenge traditional emerging technology implementation models. Most notably, it is evident that GenAI continues to mature, and state and local governments are transitioning from experimentation to more enterprise implementations and projects.
