The blockchain is the underlying infrastructure or ledger for the widely recognized cryptocurrency called bitcoin. The decentralized and permissionless elements of the blockchain infrastructure make it a disruptive infrastructure that has the ability to be a foundation for far more than just currency - it can ultimately enable a true online identity in government. Along with major corporates across the globe, government agencies are also experimenting with blockchain technologies to identify ways to leverage the technology to improve resiliency and transparency in how we store records.
